BETWEEN INSIDE OUT

“Tu te laisses aller et donc tu danses

Tu te laisses aller et donc tu danses

Tu sais, Tu existes,

Avance,

N’aie pas peur,

Et adieu aux gens qui t’énervent,

Adieu la routine de tous les jours,

Adieu la discipline, Adieu ta mauvaise foi

Adieu les efforts pour plaire aux autres,

C’est ton choix

Et donc tu danses,

Et donc tu danses,

Tu te laisses aller, Tu te laisses aller”

The BETWEEN Spring Summer 1998 remains one of the highlights in the History of Fashion. He has to his credit a large number of successful experiments, sometimes surprising as burying clothing in his garden to see how they break down, or design sleeveless bondage wardrobe, exploring the Moi and Surmoi, so beloved by the French.

Intellectuel par excellence of British fashion since 1994, the Turkish Cypriot has earned a reputation for wearable clothes tainted by intellectual engagement, à la, but not only, Walter Van Beirendonck. The body is his playground through its sexual and spatial connotations. Season after season, he perfected his purview on how we define ourselves culturally through what we wear and how we behave, towards tolerance, technology and truth. His thoughtful, elegant and in discreet ornamentation style is enriched minimalism. With him, contemplations are varied reasons for his clothes: traces of planes in the sky, weather maps, or the seduction of the MOOR’ GAZE, his Spring Summer 2015’, that look from inside the Sefsari, the satin body-scarf worn in Al-Andalus by the Moorish Ladies of the Emirate of Granada, later adopted by les Belles de Tunis and Algiers, not to confuse with the burka. Crucial. Subtle. Anti-cliché.

Long, draped , tiered or flared, flute-hemmed dresses, jumpsuits, kimono sleeved tunics, laser, lace-effects, braid embellishment, shadow patterns and a refreshing lime-green orange-tree print are built into a charming, light of touch and power-fluid wardrobe for next 2015 season. The Mediterraneans, women and men, are artful in the seduction by gaze and by dance.

Deep down, Hussein Chalayan knows perfectly how to balance esoteric impulses with buyer’s appeal, to create surprisingly easy to wear clothes; proving that it’s not sex, religion, culture or race that sell in fashion; But ideas and .. gazes transformed in 3-D steam stretch.
